BOC Annual Classic Prescott 2008

Sulgrave run 2008

AMHT 2008

17th November 2008

Dear Friends,

The mid monthly meeting is Wednesday 19th and will be held at the Aston Martin Heritage Trust, Drayton St Leonards, OX10 7BG, (which is only a couple of miles from the Coach and Horses). For a prompt 1930hrs start, I suggest that you plan to arrive from 1900ish. There will be a presentation and tour, which will last about 11/2 hours. Following that we can, if you wish, adjourn to the nearest pub. Please note that there will be no food available at the AMHT, so you should plan to eat before you leave home or hang on until you get to a pub. AMHT will make a charge of £5 per head on the night. Directions can be found on our website at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk/Events.htm . I need an indication of numbers, so if you are planning to attend, please let me know, if you haven’t already done so. A few are meeting at the Coach and Horses so as to arrive (or get lost) together. We must depart by 1900 at the latest. Let me know if this appeals to you.

The monthly meeting on Wednesday 3rd December is cancelled due to the proximity on the Christmas Dinner.

Speaking of which, the Chiltern Christmas Dinner on Saturday 6th December at the Coach and Horses Inn, Chislehampton. There are a few placed left, but you will have to hurry as we need to confirm numbers and pay the deposits to the restaurant by November 23rd. Call Geoff right away on 01491 838857 to reserve your place.

Next we have the trip to Waddesdon Manor to see the Christmas decorations and visit the food fare on Sunday, December 14th. Geoff has made a timed reservation to see the house and Christmas decorations at 11:00. We will then go down to the food fare, which is held in the stable block. As it is a National Trust property entry is free for NT members and will cost £9.00 for non-members (we would also ask for a £1 per head donation to Group funds). Geoff (clever fellow) has arranged for us to park the TRs in front of the house. What a photo opportunity, bring your cameras. Following the visit, we have made a reservation for lunch and the Crooked Billet, Kingswood. If you would like to join that, please let Roger Alderton know.

With kind regards,

Peter

Re: run out to the Star Inn, Sulgrave on Wednesday 15th October

Please find attached a rough and ready route guide for Sulgrave. I'll have some copies printed off in case they're needed on the 15th.

With kind regards,

Roger Alderton

See directions (PDF file)

3rd October 2008

I'm pleased to confirm that the run to the Star Inn at Sulgrave will take place on the 15th October in lieu of the October mid-monthly meeting.

Hywel has generously offered to meet us at the Esso filling station (opposite Tesco) in Bicester from where we will leave promptly at 6:00 p.m. We will cross the A43 at Baynards Green where we will briefly stop at the Esso filling station, at around 6:20 p.m.,  to allow other members to join the convoy. From there we will proceed to Sulgrave under the leadership of Hywel for a convivial social evening spent chatting and sampling the best of the Star Inn.

In view of the time of year, I propose that we each make arrangements for the return independently in order to reflect personal route preferences and timings.

As with previous outings of this kind, we'll ask for a donation of £1.00 per head to Group funds.

With kind regards,

Roger Alderton

Hi all

As Peter is on his hols, it falls to be to brave modern technology and remind you of the next meeting, on Wednesday 1st October at the Coach & Horses.

I have the menu for the Xmas dinner on 6th December. Numbers are limited so apply early (with deposit of £5 each) to secure a place.

Hywel and Ingram have agreed to organise the postponed run to the Star Inn at Sulgrave on 15th October. This is in place of the Kingswood meeting. We need to arrange a meeting point(s) for the run out and we can discuss this on 1st. Peter has (or will) ask Roger Alderton to organise a run out from the Bicester area. We might also do a run from the Coach and Horses to Sulgrave for those who reside in that area.

Peter has also reminded me that the Thatcham car show is on 11th October. I may go as it is free provided the weather is ok. Anybody else interested ?

See you all at Chislehampton on 1st October

Good Morning All,

This Wednesday, the 17th, is the mid monthly meeting at the Plough and Anchor, Kingswood.

Also, don't forget Prescott on Sunday 28th September for the Bugatti Owners' Club Annual Classic Meeting, featuring a round of the TR Register Hill Climb Championship. Prescott is at Gotherington, near Cheltenham.

A new event for your diary is Wednesday 19th November. In place of the mid monthly pub meeting, we will be at the Aston Martin Heritage Trust, Drayton St Leonards, near Wallingford for a  presentation and tour, starting at 19:30. There will be a small charge of £5 per head and everybody is welcome.

While you have your diary handy, remember too that the Chiltern Christmas dinner is on Saturday December 6th at the Coach and Horses Inn, Chislehampton. The menu and cost information will be with you soon.

Full details of these and all other events can be found on our website at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk along with recent pictures and news. Why not take a look ?

Finally, Roger and Julia are off Angoulême in their TR6 on Wednesday for the Circuits des Ramparts meeting and Mark and Vuokko, also in a TR6, left for Sweden last Friday to join the Euro Meeting and plan to extend their stay to visit relations in Finland. We wish then all a safe and uneventful journey and look forward to seeing the pictures on their return !

That's all for now. Hope to see you on Wednesday.

1st September 2008

Good morning All, hope all is well !

Just to remind you that this Wednesday, September 3rd is our monthly meeting at the Coach and Horses Inn, Chislehampton. The weather looks to be 'OK', should be dry although not particularly warm (well, it is September already <g>).

A couple of dates for your diary -

Firstly, Saturday September 13th is the Henley Show, Greenlands Farm. See www.thehenleyshow.com/. We have filled the very limited space we were offered for show cars but come along anyway for a good family day out. Apart from classic cars, there will be lots of animals, trade stands, crafts, entertainment, beer and ice cream. Geoff Wooldridge has the details.

Secondly, Sunday September 28th is the Prescott Classic Hill Climb event and a round of the TR Register Sprint Championship. Your chance to see competition TRs in action. The Bugatti Owners' Club (the organisers and owners of the venue) have extended an offer to the Register for reduced price tickets and a club parking area, plus a chance to take part in a demonstration (non competitive) run up the hill at lunch time. Nick Thorne and Roger Alderton have the details.

And then there's the Chiltern Group Christmas Dinner on Saturday December 6th ! Details of prices, menu options and so on will be with you soon, but now is the time to put the date in your diary.

Check out www.chiltern-trs.co.uk for more on these and all other events, together with the latest news and pictures.

See you on Wednesday !

With kind regards,

17th August 2008

If you weren't at the gliding and BBQ on Friday 8th at Bicester Airfield, you missed a great meeting !! We had twenty-two aviators, close to fifty people for the BBQ and eleven TRs on show. The weather was kind, the rain stayed away and conditions were ideal for gliding. A good time was had by all. You will see the pictures on the website at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk/Bicester%202008.htm.  A big thank you goes to Roger and Julia for organising the event - very well done chaps.

That meeting was Rosy's last as Group Leader. Her new exciting and challenging full-time job as secretary of the FBHVC will be making considerable demands on her time. However, I am pleased to say that she will still be part of the Chiltern Group committee and so we will still have the benefit of her considerable experience as a former General Manager of the TR Register, of the FBHVC and as a long term TR owner. We owe Rosy a huge debt of gratitude for her time as our Group Leader. I have been persuaded by my colleagues to take up the role. They said that since it's probably close to thirty years since I last did the job, it was must be my turn <G>. They have a point. I will stand as Group Leader until the next AGM when we will complete the proper election process. Until then, at least, you're stuck with me !!

Speaking of dates, there's a mid monthly meeting this Wednesday 20th at the Plough and Anchor, Kingswood, I look forward to seeing you there (with or without your TRs).

Another date for your diary, if it's not already there, is this Bank Holiday Monday 25th for the TR Register Party in the Park at Knebworth Classic Car Show. See www.knebworthhouse.com and the TR Register website. Those who went along last year really enjoyed the day. It's a huge classic car meeting at a splendid venue and, if memory serves, there were 105 TRs on show last year, including TS2. This year the event will be co-hosted by our friends from the North London Group and promises to be bigger and better still. Let me know if you are interested in attending as we will probably organise some sort of convoy run to the show.

Full details of everything can be found on the Chiltern website at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk.

That's all for now.

With kind regards,

Peter Bowden

This month’s meeting has crept up on me again, so your reminder is a bit late! However, we will all be at the Coach and Horses tomorrow (Wednesday) hoping for a nice sunny evening to kick tyres.

Many of you are booked in for the barbecue and gliding on Friday, for which we need the good weather as well. Your committee has some big news for you, so we hope to see you there, in the dry!

Good morning everyone,

I'm writing to bring to your attention the Historic Race Weekend  which is being staged at the Castle Combe circuit, Wilts, on 2nd /3rd August. I realise that this is a bit last minute and that its very close to our August meeting on the 6th and also the summer BBQ on the 8th August. However, the programme will be especially attractive to classic race fans and I can do no better than invite you to review details and ticket prices at  www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk.

Chilterns will be flying the banner (not competing I hasten to add) over the weekend with a small convoy planning to arrive at the track on Saturday morning. If you are minded to attend and would like join the convoy and park on the Group's stand then please let me know asap.

Best wishes

There will indeed be a meeting at the Plough and Anchor, tomorrow the 16th.

Sorry for the short notice be we only got back from Classic Le Mans late last night. A good time was had by all, although my TR4A did get a hit up the back by a Lotus Elan on the way down and broke a valvespring/rocker/something on the way back. Still running but sounding like a tractor and looking a little second-hand. Oh well, these things are sent to try us  !

I'll be there tomorrow, along with the usual suspects, but my car may not. <g>

Chilterns,

Less than a week now until the premier TR event of the year! Martin and I will be going to Malvern on Friday, aiming to camp near the electric hook ups close to the yellow loo block in the quiet camping area. We are planning to take the TR as well as the mobile home.

For anyone wanting to come for just one day, it is only the Sunday that allows a day ticket to be purchased, so economically it would make sense for us to try and get the Chiltern mass posing in the show ring on the Sunday. The show organisers have told me that we are welcome to have a slot at some point, but cannot specify a time.

To co-ordinate this, look out for our Bessacar motor home and TR8 near the yellow loo block, Geoff’s wee caravan, or try my mobile 07778 937175, or Martin’s 07832 743525. Failing that notices can be read out over the PA system if you ask at the info desk. Don’t forget that 10.00am to 11.15 on Sunday is Archers time and I will be listening to that and not answering my phone!

I expect we’ll barbie something over the weekend, so let us know if you are planning to stay the weekend and we can co-ordinate food and drink as well.

I haven’t heard any news about our mid monthly, so I am expecting it to be at the Plough and Anchor this coming Wednesday (I don’t expect we’ll make it as we are taking the day off on Friday to get to Malvern, and need to get the day jobs finished)

I also haven’t heard news from anyone who went to Classic Le Mans – hopefully the trip went well. Martin and I went to Goodwood Festival Of Speed – fabulous!

See you soon!

Regards

Rosy

Chilterns

For those who couldn’t make it to the meeting last Wednesday here is a quick summary of what we did and said.

We welcomed a mini-raid from our North London neighbours – Mike and Jane, it was good to see you.

The run to the Bell at Aldworth at the end of June was much enjoyed, and congratulations to Chris and Keith for organising such a pleasant evening. This pub does have a classic car event on some Saturdays, so we will try and get the dates for anyone who’d like to go there again.

As agreed at our AGM earlier in the year, each month we will have a designated event to give our maximum support to. (There are so many things happening during the summer we cannot support them all.) So for July it will be the International Weekend on 18-20th July. Geoff and Martin and I will be going for the weekend and camping at Malvern (weather permitting!) We have requested a slot in the programme for Chiltern to show off in the ring as a group, but I haven’t been given which day yet – I’ll keep you posted.

For August it will be the flying barbecue at Bicester on Friday 8 August, for which there is still time to book a place for the barbecue (not quite so sure about the flying, there may still be a couple of places left, and if you’d like to try a flight in glider I can pass on any requests to Roger).

For full details of these events, please see our website.

Looking further forward, we have booked the Christmas dinner for Saturday 6th December at the Coach and Horses. How’s that for forward planning? Put the date in your diaries now!

Finally – please could you all have a think about a replacement group leader? I really will have to stand down very soon and there is now such a good team within the group that everything runs very smoothly, and I know I can hand over the group leader title with no concerns about the group’s future. I can hang on until the AGM next February if absolutely necessary, but would be delighted to find a volunteer before then...

Regards

Rosy

Chiltern history was made last week – we had a ‘committee’ meeting; that is Geoff, Peter, Nick, Roger and I all got together to discuss our very full Chiltern calendar of events, the problem of a meeting place in the Aylesbury direction, and how best to run the monthly meetings. We even touched on the Christmas dinner, how’s that for forward planning!

We have a few more places left for the barbecue in August and we’d like to know who is coming along to the International, and which day(s). I have had a word with the new general manager, Allan, and he thinks that we may be able to secure a slot in the main ring to show off as a group. We were denied this bit of posing last year as we couldn’t get to Malvern to pick up TS2 as scheduled because of the weather.

To find out more, please do come along on Wednesday to the Coach and Horses. The weather forecast isn’t too promising for Wednesday, but it’s you we want to see, so don’t be embarrassed if you can’t bring the Triumph...

Greetings !

Just to remind you all that there is a mid monthly meeting this Wednesday 18th.

As you know, the management at the Crooked Billet can't decide weather they are open or not. So, we will be meeting at The Plough and Anchor, Kingswood, about three hundred metres along the A41 in the Bicester direction. Our last impromptu meeting there was a great success. The food was very good and the beer quite acceptable. A good time was had by all !!

Hope to see you there on Wednesday.

Chilterns

Due to an accidental deletion of the Chiltern group mailing list I have had to rely on Peter just lately to get news to everyone – many thanks for that! Hopefully I’m now back in business with the rebuilt list.

The last meeting, for those of you who missed it, was a lovely summer evening with a complete row of TRs in the car park plus a very pretty Alfa. We congratulated Geoff on organising such a great show at Wallingford, which looks as though it has raised over £1000 for charity.

There are so many events coming up that the best way to check is through our website at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk/Events.htm. However the important one from a finance point of view is the 'Fly and Bite' event (gliding and barbecue) at Bicester Airfield on Friday 8 August – you should have received an individual note from Roger regarding payment time for the balance of the monies. We do need this money in advance as our funds cannot pay for this otherwise. For those of you still thinking about it, there are a few places remaining for flyers but any number of people could join the barbecue.

Regarding the mid-monthly meets – the Crooked Billet cannot decide whether it is open or not, and so we have abandoned it for the Plough and Anchor not far away along the A41 towards Bicester.

The next event will be the mid monthly, swiftly followed by an evening run on 26 June in the Streatley area – all details on the website. For all runs there is a nominal charge/donation to go towards group funds.

Regalia sales are going well, and Geoff has been investigating why the ladies sweatshirts are not the shape we expected – more at the next meeting! Geoff is also looking at the possibility of fleeces for the cooler autumn months.

See you at a meeting soon.

Regards
Rosy

2nd June 2008

Dear Friends,

The first Wednesday of the month can only mean one thing !! A Chiltern Group meeting at the Coach and Horses Inn, Chislehampton.

Those of you who have committed to the 'Fly and Bite' event (gliding and BBQ) at Bicester Airfield on Friday, August 8th, will have received an individual note from Roger regarding payment time for the balance of the monies. You will need to bring your cheque book along to the meeting, or mail it to Roger's home address. For those of you still thinking about it, there are a few places remaining for flyers but any number of people could join the BBQ. See this, and all Chiltern events at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk/Events.htm

And other thing. This coming weekend is the Beale Park Thames Boat Show (between Pangbourne and Streatley), which features among a lot of other things, a show of classic cars. Geoff has organised stand space for us but will need to know who is interested in attending on either the Saturday or the Sunday (or both if you're really keen). We should be doing a double act with the Kennet Valley group. If you don't know Geoff, he's the guy who looks a lot like Santa Claus !! See www.bealepark.co.uk/events_item.php?id=110  We'll talk about the details on Wednesday.

Finally, the RAF Halton At Home Day and the de Havilland Club Fly will the weekend of 14-15th June. Let me know if you are interested in attending and we'll put something together.

That's enough for me. See you on Wednesday evening.

 23rd May 2008

Dear Friends

First, I owe you an apology !

Having told you that the meeting on Wednesday was at the Crooked Billet, when we arrived, we found that the place was most definitely closed. Despite a visit in person by Nick and Joy last week, and a phone call on the Monday to confirm arrangements, something went wrong. We moved the meeting to the Plough and Anchor, about three hundred metres up the road, and posted large notes on both the front and back doors of the Crooked Billet to that effect. I do hope we didn’t lose anyone.

Imminent events - A couple of dates for the diary.
(Full details of these and other events can be found on our website at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk/Events.htm)

Wednesday June 4th, meeting at the Coach and Horses Inn, Chislehampton.

Weekend of June 6th - 7th, Beale Park Thames Boat Show between Pangbourne and Streatley, featuring classic cars. Geoff has booked some space for a club stand but we need to gauge the level of interest for either the Saturday, or the Sunday, or if you’re really keen, both ! See www.bealepark.co.uk/events_item.php?id=110  and contact Geoff.

Weekend of June 14th – 15th, RAF Halton At Home Day and Tiger Moth Club fly-in weekend. See www.raf.mod.uk/rafhalton/events/. Sounds fun, anyone interested, let me know ?

Wednesday June 18th, Mid monthly meeting. Guess I’ll have to get back to you on that one when we have fixed a reliable venue <G>.

Friday August 8th, Gliding and BBQ at Bicester Airfield. There are still a few places left for flyers and unlimited space for the BBQ. Everybody is welcome. See our Events page for more detail or, better still, talk to Roger.

Also, a couple of new ideas came up at the meeting on Wednesday.

Roger writes -

“At the AGM earlier this year a proposal was agreed that the Group should arrange occasional ad hoc evening convoy runs by way of supplementing the normal programme of meetings and events.

With this in mind, Chris & Keith Parslett have proposed a destination in the South of our area as the Bell PH at Aldworth near Streatley on Thursday 26th June while Ingram & Hywel Lloyd have suggested the Star Inn at Sulgrave, to cater for the North of the patch, on Wednesday 23rd July. Naturally, participation in both convoys is recommended.

The Bell is a very old and interesting pub serving ale (no lager louts here!!) wine and a limited menu built around sandwiches, ploughman’s and the like. Most importantly, the landlord is very welcoming and positive about an invasion of TR’s. Recapture the traditional English country pub at The Bell amid some beautiful countryside offering a great drive.

The Star Inn at Sulgrave provides another traditional English country pub with origins going back to the 17th century. Real ale, a restaurant menu and a range of bar snacks are on offer in attractive and friendly surroundings set in the village where George Washington had his ancestral home. This run will take us through some beautiful countryside on the Northamptonshire border.

In general terms the idea will be to rendezvous at a convenient point for around 6.00 – 6.30 ‘ish and convoy to the destination. There will be a nominal fee of a £1.00 per person charged to offset admin costs and build Group funds. Precise details will be developed over the next week or two but what we definitely require now is an indication of interest in one or other of these outings. Please e-mail Roger (adlfirst@btconnect.com) or otherwise confirm your participation at the next monthly meeting at the Coach & Horses”.

That’s quite enough from me for now !

See you soon.

Wednesday May 21st - Chiltern TRs Mid monthly meeting

The plot thickens !

After many months of discussion, it now seems that the Crooked Billet at Kingswood will not now be closing for refurbishment. In fact, it's going to be under new management !!!

So, I can confirm that we will be meeting at the Crooked Billet, as usual, next Wednesday. The room has been booked.

Our thanks to Ian Smith for keeping an eye on the place and to Joy and Nick Thorne for spending their time sorting out the confusion and visiting the (new) Manager to discuss our requirements.

See you on the 21st.

Chiltern Group - Dates for the Diary !

Great turnout for the Wednesday meeting at the Coach and Horses !

Although I didn't count the number of people but there were 13 or 14 cars, including Steve Rockingham's amazing ex-works TR7 V8 rally car ! There were few faces we haven't seen in a while amongst the old regulars <g>. The weather was warm enough to sit and eat outside on the patio and light enough to spend time in the carpark kicking tyres. If you weren't there, you missed a good meeting !!

Now, let me remind you of a few imminent events. This Sunday 11th is the Wallingford Classic Vehicle Rally, in aid of a local charity. Registration for the run/parade is at the Wallingford Sports Park, Hithercroft Road from 10.00. If you don't fancy that, the event itself is at the Kinecroft Park. It's not too late to put in an entry, or just turn up on the day. The Chiltern Group will have a large display. The weather is going to be great (Geoff has taken care of that !). See www.wallingfordcarrally.org.uk for more details.

Sunday 18th May is the Chiltern Hill Vintage Vehicle Rally at Aston Clinton. Nick Thorne has organised a club stand for us. This is another charity event and usually draws about 800 vehicles, from cars to commercials and bikes. See www.chilternhillsrally.co.uk for more details. This is a great alternative to the Triumph Marque Day at Prescott, if you think that's too far to go.

Triumph Marque Day at Prescott, is in fact the weekend of May 17-18th, and has been well covered in TR  Action. Wall to wall TRs and all things Triumph.

June 6 - 8th is the Beale Park Thames Boat Show, featuring, amongst other things, classic cars. Geoff will arrange a club presence if there is sufficient interest.

Friday August 8th is the "Flight and Bite" event at Windrushers Gliding Club, Bicester Airfield. Your chance to pilot a glider followed by an organised BBQ. We've has a lot of takers for both the flying and the eating (if you don't want to fly, then come along and eat <g>). Spaces are still available, just contact Roger Alderton. A deposit of £5 per head is required.

Full details of all events can be found on our website at www.chiltern-trs.co.uk/Events.htm.

I haven't fixed a venue for the next mid monthly meeting on May 21st yet (the Crooked Billet is closed for refurbishment), but I will e-mail you again soon with the details of the place an time.

That's all for now.

Hope to see you at Wallingford on Sunday.

Chilterns,

I’m very pleased to say that there has been a lot of interest and support for DID from everyone, and many, many clubs. Just to clear up a couple of things though: the original idea of the day is to get as many historic vehicles out on the road as possible, so that they can be seen in use – even if it is just popping down to the newsagents to get a paper !

There is no ‘official’ DID event, but there are lots of things going on actually on the day so that there are destination points for groups/clubs etc.

I hope I can clear up a misunderstanding about the Bishopstone venue which has been criticised for being quite inaccessible and not very big. The FBHVC has been invited there by the landlord, and as it has a good reputation for food etc, chose this particular venue to invite the press to meet the FBHVC Board. Lots of people attended this pub last year much to our surprise and it was full to bursting. Everyone is welcome again this year BUT the idea of the day is get vehicles on the road, not to sit in a pub car park all day. Many of the venues which have declared that they will be open, are open all day – breakfast, lunch and dinner, as it the Bishopstone pub. Hope that helps !

I am told that the mid monthly meeting on 16th April is likely to be the last for a month or so at the Crooked Billet, so I will have to make an effort to come along – my track record for meetings this year has not been good !

Geoff tells me that the regalia order has gone in, but will not be ready for 16th – however we should have it by May for the monthly meeting. That means we can have a ‘corporate look’ for the big event of our year at Wallingford on 11 May !

Regards

Rosy

Chilterns

Just a short reminder the next meeting is on Wednesday, April 2nd,  at the Coach & Horses. We are about to start the season.   In case you have not noticed summer will be soon.

To mark this Peter and I am going to the Group Leaders Meeting on Sunday so we should have some news on the official position for the Banner Flags.

Our season is about to kick off with April 6th South West Inter Group meeting, April 20th Drive it Day, and then May with possible events on 4, 4&5, 11, 18, 17&18, and 21. In all a lot to discuss and arrange. Hence it should be a busy evening. The question needs to be asked can we do all these ? Who wants to attend what ? Please remember to bring your diaries. We will also have an update on the BBQ and I hope to deliver the first order for the Chiltern shirts.

See you on Wednesday.

22nd March 2008

Happy Easter one & all (get your ski's out). Please see below further information concerning the summer BBQ.

Firstly, an apology. The cost of the BBQ alone (i.e. without a glider flight) will be £7.50 per head rather than the £7.00 previously notified. I know that the difference is small but I am embarrassed by a silly mistake. This obviously means that for those having given me a deposit, there will be an outstanding balance per head of either £25.00 (flight & bite) or £2.50 (bite only).

Having spoken in more detail with Windrushers GC I am pleased to confirm that the upper wight restriction is 18 stone. It seems that a side by side configuration has an advantage over tandem (something to do with weight distribution and centre of gravity). This means that if you were, shall we say, "marginal" under the published weight restriction previously circulated then its likely you'll now qualify under the 18 stone limit.

I can also tell you that if weather conditions on 8th August will not allow us to fly then we will have the option to move the entire event to an alternative date or proceed with the BBQ and fly later. I'm bound to say I think an alternative date would have my vote but I realise also that diaries may be a bit tricky at the height of summer. In any case, this is not something we need to worry about too much at the moment; Windrushers are well connected for long range forecasting (yeah, right I hear you say) and I'm told we'll have good notice in which to take a decision.

Finally, Windrushers seem quite excited at the prospect of a mass visit by our cars and I think are looking forward to extracting maximum photo publicity from the event.

Thats it for now; please let me have your bookings asap and deposits please (£5.00 pp). Look forward to seeing you at the Coach & Horses on the 2nd April.

Not too much chocolate now !!!

3rd March 2008

Chilterns,

Just a couple of days to go until the March meeting. Martin and I are definitely hoping to make it to this one, but our track record this year has not been good. One or other of us has had flu or a really bad cold since New Year's Day - but we are both back fighting fit now.

On Tuesday there is also another really good evening in store. Peter has all the details and has written the following
The Historic Rally Car Register will meet on Tuesday 4th March at the Gate Inn, Bryant's Bottom, near Risborough. The talk by Brian Culcheth starts at 20.00, so we really need to be there by 19.00 to allow time to eat. A number of us will be going, some starting from the Crooked Billet, Kingswood at 18.00, then on to Aylesbury by 18.30, meeting at the lay-by on the A413 just after the Bedgrove roundabout, then on to meet others at Monks Risborough in the lay-by opposite the end of Peters Lane. From there we'll cover the short drive to Bryant's Bottom to arrive by about 19.00. If you are interested in joining us, please call either Roger Alderton or Peter Bowden. If you like to make your own way there, you will find a map on the website, on the 'Latest News' page.

The situation regarding the mid monthly meets is still far from clear, and so we will need to have a discussion about what to do about these on Wednesday at the regular meeting. We are hoping to actually get the raffle going this month too - we have had some great prizes donated, so have some small change ready!

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday at the Coach and Horses

Regards,
Rosy

19th February 2008

Dear All

Just to remind you - the mid monthly meeting is this Wednesday, 20th at the Crooked Billet, Kingswood. Nick Thorne will be explaining the principals of "Tulip Diagrams" as use in rally navigation. We have an event or two later in the year which will need basic understanding of such things so Nick has kindly offered to share his knowledge. Nick will be starting his short presentation at 2030ish in the function room.

Also, a date for the diary.

We have been invited by the Bucks/Berks/Oxon group of the Historic Rally Car Register to join them at their club night on Tuesday 4th March.  Their special guest will be Brian Culcheth, the well-known Works Triumph rally driver, who will be giving a presentation about his time rallying in the 60's & 70's.
The venue is the Gate Inn (good food & drink) at Bryants Bottom, HP16 0JS, which is a small hamlet between High Wycombe and Great Missenden. The presentation will start at 20.0hrs, please arrive earlier to eat.

I will put some directions or a map on the website to help you find it. A number of us are planning to go, so if you're interested, let me know (and we can get lost together <G>).

See you Wednesday.

Time for another Chiltern meeting this coming Wednesday! This would normally have been our AGM, but of course we had that at the January mid monthly this year...

We will be at the Coach and Horses in Chislehampton - looking forward to seeing you all there. And, as agreed at the AGM, we'll have a small raffle to raise some funds for the group's activities.

See you there!

CHILTERN TRs AGM NOTES

Wednesday 16th January 2008, 8.30 pm

The Crooked Billet, Kingswood

We were delighted to welcome our co-ordinator, Kevin Jones, to our meeting and he kindly agreed to chair the meeting. We had a good turn out and even a visitor from North London to swell our numbers, as well as two new Chilterns. The 'home made or edible' theme for the raffle swelled the club funds, and Martyn, the lucky first prize winner went home with a voucher from the TR Register for one year's membership plus the pick of the donated produce.

1. Finances

We have the grand total of £208.20 in a Nationwide account. Geoff Wooldridge (deputy GL), Rosy Pugh (GL) and Steph Martin are currently signatories, but as we don't see Steph very regularly now, the meeting agreed that Peter Bowden should replace Steph. We don't need a great deal of cash, and there is always the annual allowance of £150 we can claim from central funds for specific items. We cannot charge a fee for joining the group, as free membership of local groups is part of the package of membership benefits the TR Register offers - we can of course accept donations, or hold regular raffles, or set a small fee for events.

2. Election of group leader and helpers

In spite of pleas (from Rosy) for someone else to have a go at the group leader job, Rosy Pugh was elected again - with Geoff Wooldridge as deputy group leader and treasurer, and Nick Thorne, Roger Alderton and Peter Bowden (webmaster) forming a sub committee to help out.

Kevin pointed out that the members of the group should think about who else might be prepared to have a go at running the group in the future, in the event that members of the sub-committee do stand down.

3. Events for 2008 - including mid monthly meeting speakers and /or entertainment

The full events list is on the website. As there are so many events throughout the year, it was suggested that where there is a clash of dates, Chilterns will declare which will be the 'official' event. This can be done at each monthly meeting, and should ensure good support for runs out etc. Someone will then be nominated to organise it, and it was suggested that a nominal fee could be charged (e.g. £1) to help group funds.

The Crooked Billet had a change of plan re closing for refurbishment, and would now not be closing before April, so mid-monthly meetings would not be affected for February and March. We will be looking into getting a speaker for these, and possibly an autojumble event.

Among the most important events for the year are: Wallingford Classic Vehicle Rally and Parade on May 11; Drive It Day on April 20 where the designated run will be to the Shuttleworth Collection. [Since the meeting, Rosy attended an FBHVC meeting and discovered that there will be an meeting place at Bishopstone, as last year, for anyone wanting a trip to Wiltshire.]

The south west intergroup meetings are to be revived this year - April 6, in the Lacock area. There will also be a group leaders meeting soon - please let Rosy or Geoff know if there is anything you would like to have discussed there. We can send two delegates if anyone else would like to go…

4. Technical support network

Roger Alderton had already had a number of replies. The main reason for setting this up is to help anyone (especially a new member) with rebuilds etc. A secondary reason is to have a list of names/phone numbers for emergencies/breakdowns. The form circulated will ask permission to print member details on a list which can be available on our website as well as on paper at meetings. It will be possible to opt out of the website listing if required.

5. Chiltern banner for shows

Geoff had researched the costs of a Chiltern banner for shows which will be 5m high and can be fixed to a TR. We will be asking central funds for the £270 needed for 2 banners.

6. Questionnaire

Nick Thorne's questionnaire had provided useful results about what members want from the group - runs out were requested, quizzes not! Non-technical talks of approx 20 minutes duration and table top rallies also requested.

7. Update of contacts list

This really related to the support network. Rosy also asked for anyone who had not yet been included on the email list to give their email address, in order to receive the regular bulletins.

8. Triumph Over Adversity award

There were a couple of nominations, but overwhelming support for Nick's nomination: Roger Alderton for meticulously fitting a new fan to his TR6, but not being able to get it to work as he had set it up using a mirror… you can guess the rest!

9. Anything else anyone would like to discuss

Geoff had information about new suppliers of Chiltern regalia, which met with unanimous approval. The new supplier had minimal set up costs and no minimum order requirements.

Many thanks to everyone who attended, took part in the discussions, donated raffle prizes etc!

Group Leader

12th January 2008

Chilterns,

Don't forget, this coming Wednesday will be the AGM at the Crooked Billet at Kingswood on the A41 between Bicester and Aylesbury. The agenda was mailed and emailed to you recently - please ask if you need another copy. We will also have a raffle of home grown/made/produced goodies - all contributions welcome!

With the mailshot was a form to fill in on the Technical Support Network. We have had a few returned already, but to really make it a success we need lots more - can you help?

Look forward to seeing you all there! Our co-ordinator, Kevin Jones, will be coming along to the AGM from deepest Gloucestershire - so if he can make - you can!

Rosy

30th December 2007

Chilterns

I hope you all had a merry Christmas and are now looking forward to a happy new year. We will be meeting at the Coach and Horses this coming Wednesday, but don't expect there will be a very large turnout!

The most important thing to tell everyone is that the AGM has been brought forward from February to the third Wednesday, 16 January, and it will be at the Crooked Billet, Kingswood, not the C&H. The reason for this is because there is a superb meeting room there, but it closes for renovation in February, so to take advantage of this free space, we have moved the meeting forward by a few weeks.

Attached is a copy of a newsletter which gives all the details, and this will go out to everyone in the group by post as well. The agenda, provisional events list and a great new idea from Roger Alderton are included.

See you there!

Rosy

8th December 2007

Chilterns,

Record numbers at our Christmas dinner last night, and feedback is very good - I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. I've sent some pics to Peter Webmaster to go on the website, so I'm sure you'll be able to see the embarrassing evidence soon! Congratulations to Sue and Simon Harrison for making such short work of the quizzes too. There were some great answers to some questions - and points were definitely awarded for silliness (no prizes though!) - who would have thought that Santa had a herd of over 130 reindeer all individually named...

We continue with our odd meeting dates for the December mid monthly, as there will be a meeting at the Crooked Billet on TUESDAY 18 December. At that meeting we will try and sort out what to do re the AGM. The room at the Crooked Billet is much more suitable for this, but we'd have to have the meeting in mid January. If we decide in the next few weeks, it will be perfectly possible to snail mail and email everyone in plenty of time.

The Crooked Billet meet is certainly not intended to replace the Coach and Horses, just an additional event. The Crooked Billet will in any case be temporarily closing for refurbishment in February, for a couple of months, I understand.

For details of venues and directions - see How to Find Us

If we don't see you on Tuesday 18th, have a very happy Christmas and a great new year.

Regards
Rosy

24th November 2007

Firstly, the news that our area co-ordinator likes our magazine report enough to award us a prize! I will pick it up at the Register AGM tomorrow. How about that!

Secondly, thank you to everyone who supported Peter, Nick and Roger at the mid monthly. What a great turn out! Many thanks to those three and their respective partners.

The trip to Hughenden on Saturday 1st December is well subscribed. There are no limits to numbers though, but when I spoke to them (NT) they asked us to park in the church car park, and because of the likely popularity of the place, I suggest that we start at about 11am. Anyone who wants to have lunch can do so there, they do snacks and full meals, all home cooked. For more info, there are details on the National Trust website. Anyone who needs disabled parking can park very near the house, no problem. I've never been there before, but I expect it is well signposted.

The trip is free for National Trust members and I'm hoping we can qualify for a group discount for everyone else. I will give a list of names to the people at the gate.

The names I have so far are:
Rosy, Martin & Jean Pugh (NT)
Simon & Sue Harrison
Dick & Irene Cox (NT)
Rosemarie & Ian Stubbings (NT)
Alan Crussell
Roger & Julia Alderton
Geoff & Chris Wooldridge
Claire & Neil Thomas + 5
Andrew Davis + 3? (NT)
Rob & Pam Hardy + 1
Peter & Heather Bowden
You can just turn up on the day if you get the urge, or I can add you to the list for a potential discount - but we hope to see you there !

Regards
Rosy

19th November 2007

Chilterns,

I have spoken to the National Trust re our visit to Hughenden on Saturday 1st December, and we do not need to pre-book. However, if I can get a list of names together, then we may be able to get a block booking discount on tickets for non members. We've already got well over 30 people!

They strongly recommend that we do not try and squeeze in the NT car park, but use the church car park next door. For this reason I suggest we go for an earlier time of 11am to start our visit, and then anyone who would like to have lunch there can do so after the house visit.

Don't forget, this Wednesday is our first mid-monthly for many years, but more importantly it is the talk by Bill Price about TR7s in competition - not to be missed!

See you there!

Regards
Rosy

7th November 2007

New mid monthly meeting at the Crooked Billet, Kingswood

There will be a mid monthly meeting on Wednesday, 21st November from 1930hrs at the Crooked Billet, Kingswood, which is on the A41 between Bicester and Waddesdon. There will be good food, good beer, use of a private room, large car park and plenty of outside space.

We have been looking for an additional venue for some time that would afford us the opportunity to hold talks, presentations and, on occasion, more formal meetings in a private room. The Crooked Billet fits the bill. The manager, Stuart Leath, has been extremely helpful and supportive, waiving the room hire fee in return for eating his food and drinking his beer !

For this, the first meeting, we have a talk by Bill Price, the former Competition Manager of BL Motorsport, about "The TR7/TR7V8 rally programme 1976-1980."

This is an important step in the development of the Chiltern Group and it would be great if as many members as possible could attend the inaugural meeting. The intention will be to try to find out what you, the members want from such a forum and discuss a forward programme.

This is a new venture for both ourselves and the Crooked Billet so let's make it work !

2nd November 2007

Chilterns

Another meeting coming up on Wednesday 7th!

As the Christmas dinner is so close to the first Wednesday of December, does anyone want to abandon this meeting and just have the dinner 2 days later? I suspect the pub will be getting very busy around this time anyway. There's also another idea for Christmas as well...

Back to the dinner - If possible I would like to collect your Christmas dinner deposits of £5 per head so that we can pay the Coach and Horses. We have done very well and have 34 places booked. We could fit in a couple more at a squeeze, so please let me know if you haven't booked and would like to join us. A menu choice form is attached which I will also need very soon, and if you can bear to make the decision this far ahead of the dinner, I can collect it on Wednesday as well.

Also on the subject of Christmas, we have visited a National Trust property for the last 3 years (2 to Waddesdon, and 1 to Basildon). Is anyone interested in a trip out this year? Hughenden is also open at Christmas - although only for one weekend, 1-2 December. Waddesdon has a lot more choice of dates but we need to book timed tickets for this, and I would need your booking by this Wednesday. (Waddesdon is also celebrating 50 years with the National Trust this year.) I didn't think Basildon was quite as good as Waddesdon last year, but that was just my personal view!

Let me know!

Hope to see you all on Wednesday
Regards
Rosy

11th October 2007

Chilterns

I spoke to the Coach and Horses today and David confirmed that our Christmas dinner will be on the FRIDAY 7th December.

The good news is that I have managed to secure another 6 places so that we can have up to 40 people. Just as well - as we have bookings for 34 already and not all of the regulars have booked in yet!

Regards
Rosy

10th October 2007

Chilterns,

Thank you for the fantastic support for the Christmas dinner! We already have 27 bookings. If you haven't already booked, there is a maximum of 32 (maybe 34 at a squash) places.

Don't worry about the menu choices at this stage, but don't forget I will need your £5 per head deposits at the November meeting (Please don't post anything at the moment). By then we should know whether we will be on the Friday or the Saturday.

Regards
Rosy

7th October 2007

We had a bit of a shock at the meeting last week - the Coach and Horses were almost fully booked for weekends near Christmas for Christmas dinner.

However, we have secured a booking for Friday December 7, with a first refusal on Saturday December 8th (probably a 50:50 chance we can get it). The menu is attached - it is £22 per head, and a £5 deposit is required to confirm the booking. The absolute maximum number is 34 (about the average attendance, but nowhere near the 45-50 we had at the August and September meetings). Book early for Christmas!

The menu is a .pdf for which you will need Adobe to open, but I do also have it as a .jpg file, although that is quite a large size. Let me know if you need a different format (or look on the website). See Menu as a PDF file (280Kb).

PLEASE DON'T POST BOOKING/DEPOSIT! With the post strike, who knows when anything will arrive. If you would like to book, just email, and then pay the deposit at the meeting (Cheques to TR Register, Chiltern Group). The Coach and Horses won't need your menu choices until mid November.

Hope that is OK with everyone!
Regards
Rosy

30th September 2007

Chilterns,

Well, we made it back from Italy - about 2500 miles for us and Rob and Pam. Mark and Vuokko went on to Greece to do the tour there, and hopefully will also make it back safely. Mark's TR6 did have to have a water pump transplant in Rimini, and yes, I've got the pics! As ever the Italian meeting was an amazing experience - but it is a long way to drive... However, with the engine rebuild we do now have better fuel consumption and even drove past a few petrol stations without filling up.

We hope to see you at the Coach and Horses on Wednesday - if you can bear to be bored to death by the photos / stories of our adventures etc that is!

See you there!
Regards
Rosy

3rd September 2007

Chilterns,

There's been so much going on this last week or so I nearly forgot - it's our September meeting on Wednesday! Will we beat the magnificent attendance of 47 people set last month...

We'll see you there! (Hopefully with the TR, after all its recent adventures)

Regards
Rosy

29th August 2007

Chilterns,

Sorry to say that we have had to postpone the balloon event until (probably) October, as Martin's friend cannot after all muster enough balloons for this weekend.
