Sunday, May 18th - Chiltern Hills Vintage Vehicle Rally, Aston Clinton, Bucks, HP22 5RN

The Chiltern Hills Vintage Vehicle Rally is held on the third Sunday in May and is a large, well established event which raises money for local good causes. Attractions include around 800 vehicles, 50 trade stands, autojumble, helicopter rides, quad bikes, craft tent, pig roast, fun dog show and a mini fairground together with other children's activities.

The rally is organised by a group called "The Game Club", which began fund raising in 1988 to help a wheelchair bound patient at the National Spinal Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. They began with sponsored snooker and other games, hence the title. The result of these early efforts was a gold medal at the 1988 Paralympics in Seoul!

Other support which has been given includes funding towards health care, equipment for local school bands & sports clubs and helping local disabled people with sport and theatre activities.

Location: Weston Road, Aston Clinton, Near Aylesbury, Bucks, HP22 5RN. Ref. OS 165 SP 865 115.

The rally site is next to Aylesbury Rugby Club on the Northern side of Weston Road (the former B4544), and is between Weston Turville, and Aston Clinton. Open between 10.00 and 17.00. See www.chilternhillsrally.org.uk/.

The organisers, the Standard Triumph Forum, are planning a weekend of varied activities, which will span Saturday 17th May as well as the Marque Day on the 18th May 2008. These will include a Cotswold run and a social gathering on the Saturday night. On the Sunday the Prescott Hill will be fully marshalled and available for making non-competitive un-timed climbs. There will also be a cavalcade on the Sunday as well as static displays by the various clubs in the lovely Cotswold setting.

Thursday, June 26th - Run out to The Bell at Aldworth near Streatley

At the AGM earlier this year a proposal was agreed that the Group should arrange occasional ad hoc evening convoy runs by way of supplementing the normal programme of meetings and events.

With this in mind, Chris & Keith Parslett have proposed a destination in the South of our area as the Bell at Aldworth near Streatley. Naturally, participation in the convoy run is recommended !

The Bell is a very old and interesting pub serving ale (no lager louts here!!) wine and a limited menu built around sandwiches, ploughman’s and the like. Most importantly, the landlord is very welcoming and positive about an invasion of TR’s.  Recapture the traditional English country pub at The Bell amid some beautiful countryside offering a great drive.

In general terms the idea will be to rendezvous at a convenient point for around 6.00 – 6.30 ‘ish and convoy to the destination. There will be a nominal donation of a £1.00 per person levied to offset admin costs and build Group funds. Precise details will be developed over the next week or two but what we definitely require now is an indication of interest. I propose a meeting point for this run at the Coach & Horses. Please e-mail Roger (adlfirst@btconnect.com ) or otherwise confirm your participation at the next meeting.

Roger Aderton

Wednesday, July 23rd - Run out to The Star Inn at Sulgrave. * Please Note that this event has been postponed. A new date will be posted here.

Ingram & Hywel Lloyd have suggested the Star Inn at Sulgrave, near Banbury, to cater for the North of our patch. Naturally, participation in the convoy run is recommended !

The Star Inn at Sulgrave,  provides another traditional English country pub with origins going back to the 17th century. Real ale, a restaurant menu and a range of bar snacks are on offer in attractive and friendly surroundings set in the village where George Washington had his ancestral home. This run will take us through some beautiful countryside on the Northamptonshire border. A menu will be available here on the website nearer the time.

Please e-mail Roger (adlfirst@btconnect.com ) or otherwise confirm your participation at the next meeting.

Roger Aderton

Update - this meeting has been re-scheduled for Wednesday 15th October, in place of the regular mid monthly meeting at the Plough and Anchor. Arrangements are as above, with the final details and the meeting point e-mailed to you in good time.

The Star Inn is at Manor Road, Sulgrave is near Banbury, OX17 2SA, just off junction 11 of the M40 and ten miles from Silverstone. See map and also the pub website at www.thestarinnatsulgrave.com/

Sunday, July 27th - A run for Classic, Vintage and any other interesting vehicles.

The plan is to take a 30-40 mile drive locally and then return to my home in Britwell Salome for a picnic lunch and a relaxing Sunday afternoon.

If you are interested in joining local car for a day out then please call Chris Bidgood on 01491 612702 or e-mail me at pcbidgood@yahoo.co.uk

Sunday, August 3rd - Intergroup Meeting with Cotswold Vale

Saturday, September 13th - The Henley Show

Although the organisers have limited us to only seven show cars, everyone else is most welcome to join us for the day, but will have use the public car park. There will be lots of animals, attractions, beer and ice cream ! See  www.thehenleyshow.com/. Those showing cars will be Nick Thorne, Roger Alderton, Ian Stubbings, Dick Cox, Keith Parsler, Peter Bowden and Myself.

I suggest we meet up at Waitrose car park (near the first entrance and near the Library) at 08:30 to process to the show ground at Greenlands Farm, Hambleden off the Marlow Road. According to their web site the show starts at 09:00 and we need to reserve a space for all of us.

For those who have SatNav the post code for Henley Waitrose is RG9 2BA, the entrance is off the A4130 at the mini roundabout(s) Marlow Road / Kings Road. Take Kings Road up the hill through the housing to the back of Waitrose. Left turn into the carpark.

If you have any concerns or question, please give me a call.

Geoff Wooldridge

Update Wednesday 10th September

Following your comments, I have clarified the opening time for the show. The show opens at 9:00 but the stands need to be up for 10:00.

I suggest meet at 9:30 in Waitrose carpark so we can get to the show before 10:00. I understand that we have a space allocated for our display so we do not need to get there particularly early.

Currently the ground is not flooded <g> and the show is still on despite some of the site being rather damp. The forecast for the end of the week seems good so it should be a good show, if a bit damp underfoot !!

Geoff Wooldridge

Sunday, September 28th - Bugatti Owners' Club Annual Classic Meeting, Prescott.

Also a round of the TR Register Hill Climb Championship.  A Special invitation from The BOC to the TR Register and a chance to support your colleagues racing TRs (probably 12 cars on the day).

For a minimum of 10 cars (from the Club) the entrance is reduced from £12.50 to £10.00 per person plus there will be allocated car parking in the orchard and a Club demonstration (non competitive) run up the hill at lunchtime. Prescott is a fabulous historic venue at Gotherington, near Cheltenham GL52 9RD, has a restaurant, proper toilet facilities and a Bugatti Museum. See www.prescott-hillclimb.com/usefulinformation.aspx

With interest from nine Groups so far, there will be way more that 10 cars ! As far as we know there is no limit to the maximum number of cars.

The Chiltern presence will be coordinated by Nick Thorne and Roger Alderton.

Wednesday, November 19th - mid monthly meeting at the Aston Martin Owners' Club  Heritage Trust, Drayton St Leonards, Wallingford, OX10 7BG.

We will be holding the November mid monthly at the AMOC Heritage site at Drayton St Leonards, starting at 19:30. There will be a talk by the Chairman (?), Neil Murray, which will last about an hour and a half and a chance to look around. The will be a charge on the night of (about) £5 per head
.
"The Aston Martin Company was founded by Lionel
Martin in 1914 and has (just) survived all the challenges of the age of mass production, has made fewer than 15,000 cars. At least 12,000 of those are still alive and well and bring a unique kind of pleasure to owners and enthusiasts all over the world.
The AMOC was founded in 1935 to respond to the growing community of interest in the marque. It now has nearly 5000 members worldwide in 54 countries on 6 continents.
Over the years, the Club has accumulated what amounts to the entire history of Aston Martin from its earliest days. The unique treasure of memorabilia, drawings, engineering designs, works of art, photographs and ephemera includes an extraordinary collection of trophies, won by cars and drivers in competition with the world's finest sports cars."

For a map and directions, see www.amheritrust.org/contact_us.htm

Our thanks to Tim Oates for arranging the evening.
